BEST |
WAROO 08 |
Flown in varied inland weather conditions. |
JAMES LANGTON |
This is Best Kiteboardings 3rd year of the Waroo and boy is this thing good!
This kite is excellent because it’s a Land, Surf and Snow kite. Best have made a lot of changes to the Waroo 08 and now its as good as ever. This kite is already very popular because it has supreme depower and the ability to ride on anything.
First Impressions:
When it first came out of the bag the first thing I noticed was the graphics. They look awesome! Much better than the 07 colour scheme.
Now to set up!:
Once I had unrolled the kite, I stepped back to admire it in all its glory! It looks truly amazing!
First I pumped up the struts until they were rock solid and put the air tight valve in.
Now for the Leading Edge. Another thing I noticed was the 2 valves in the middle of the Leading Edge, 1 inlet and the other exhaust.
The first one on the left is the deflate which lets the air out quickly so it if starts to rain you can make a quick get away!
The one on the right is the inflate which has a ball inside which moves when you pump to let the air in and when you take the pump hose off it doesn’t leak air whilst you pop the air tight valve in. This is a excellent idea because you don’t have to do it as fast as you can so you don’t loose pressure.
The pump that you get with the kite is small , however for the size of the kite a bigger one isn’t really needed. But never the less the pump is an excellent quality item.
The mounting points are of extremely high quality. The stitching is second to none and as from past experience from flying Best kites this kite construction method is truly built to last!
(picture)
The bridals are excellent with the new pulley system making the kite faster and more stable. And where you attach the knot to the power lines is also the usual Best quality.
Now moving onto the struts and the ABC custom tune system.
The struts at the bottom of the kite are there to keep the kite ridged and to make it move silently, nor forgetting to make for faster turning and better aerodynamics.
New to the 08 kites we have the A-B-C system that lets you fine tune your kite to how you desire.
You can change it to your preference by making the kite faster with heavy bar pressure or slower will less power and lighter bar pressure. You choose, very cool!!
You also have a 3rd way of de powering the kite by choosing which line to have it on. Having it on the front line will make the kite have less power because the back lines will be loose and you will have very light bar pressure or if you do it the other way around so the line is on the back knot you will have very heavy bar pressure and more power.
The bar and lines.
The lines are extra strong 21m flying lines. For the bottom lines you have a red (left) and a blue (right) to show which way the bar goes is you have the lines in a small twist. The two centre lines are both grey.
Now to the bar.
The bar that came with my 9m Waroo was 45cm and it makes the kite super fast and stable.
All Best bars have the added bonus of comfortable bar cover.
The depower system is simpler than ever. Its just a pull of the rope that says depower to depower, and to power up just pull the one that says power. What could be simpler?
The chicken loop is easy to fit to your harness hook. To flag the kite down on the safety, you just simply pull the red safety loop on the chicken loop, and the kite will fall down in full depower mode to the side of the window, and all you have to do is reset the chicken loop which is really easy, and away you go! The leash is easy to reset, even in the water, so even if you do get into trouble, you can get back up again without too much fuss!
Best bars now have the ‘Mickey mouse ears’ just above the depower connected to the 2 top lines, and its there for manoeuvres such as a 360, and insures your lines don’t get tangled. Genius idea and a simple one at that!
Last but not least, the bag.
The new bag is excellent with loads of pockets and convenient storage space, easily swallowing up everything you need to take to the beach for that day for example. However, the down side of the bag is that it is fussy construction making it look untidy when worn as a rucksack. This is a small and minor detail but its what’s in the bag that counts!
Pro’s & Con’s!
Pro’s:
.The kite is fast.
.Good in almost any wind
.Lots of depower.
.Very lifty & floaty.
Con’s
.Bag isn’t the best fitting.
.No EZ pump.
