After
having to miss too many sessions at the beach lately when my 17m Strike
was just not powerful enough, |

I
wanted something good for Kitesurfing but that would also be a good
laugh on a Landboard too. When I saw that Peter Lynn had made the '04 Guerillas up to 22m, I decided this could be just the ticket. |

| The
first time I flew the kite was on a really wet and foggy day in Woolacombe,
with about 8-10kts onshore light breeze. In these conditions the kite
barely flew at all, stalling and not even reaching the zenith. I think
a combination of the light wind and wet sail meant it was right on the
limit. A little discouraged I packed it away and headed back to my temporary
base in Weymouth. Next day we were blessed with some more wind, conditions
were cross off shore NW, gusting from 15-22kts. At least that's what the
wind station said; it actually felt a little less than that. This time on launching, the kite flew straight up, and gave me a good dragging on the way. It parked itself at the 12 o clock position, rock solid. The first thing I noticed was the massive stability, handling the gusts very well and staying put. This was noticeably different to the Phantoms, which tend to wobble around and move back and forth as they ride out the gusts. |

Jumping
onto my board (130cm AH pro model), I was up and planing nicely. With
a constant wind, the kite just sat on the edge and pulled me along
like a big old tractor. Great fun, you could just let go of the bar
and hang back, look around and check your mate's tricks out! Power
was constant and high. The stability was amazing. In the gusts, it
was easy to bring the kite lower and edge in really hard, although

For jumping it was a case of edge hard and releasing, whilst maintaining the kite at 45 degrees, excellent fun for wake style jumps and ollies. The slow turning made normal jumping trickier and I only got it after a few sessions. Jumps were very floaty, but not as high. The landings were so easy; you come down very softly and this gives plenty of time to spot the landings. I am really looking forward to my next session. Ideal conditions would be a nice steady 12-15kts, perfect for this kite and my size / weight. I have read that by using 20m lines, or using a Y clip on the front lines (connecting the two front lines together, 20m from the kite), you can increase the turning speed of this kite. This would make the jumping easier, and allow flying in lighter wind-this could be the answer for inland flying and land boarding, where you need to keep the kite moving. |

Overall
the huge stability and massive pull makes this a very attractive option....is
it time to lose the strikes and get with the G2's? The steady pull,
non-aggressive lift, use on land and water, floaty landings, no tubes
to pump up, great stability............ |
